Six months is a popular point to pause and look back at the first half-year. A consistent card or blanket makes a milestone series easy to compare without turning the session into an event.

A half-year milestone photo

At six months, many families mark the midpoint of the first year with a blanket, a number, and a familiar toy.

Photograph the baby in a position they can already manage comfortably. A supported seated photo is not necessary; a relaxed portrait on a clear floor can be just as expressive.

  • parent-and-baby profile by the window for month six

Save a small set you will revisit

Take one frame with the month marker and a few without it. Include a detail of hands or feet, plus a candid with a parent, then choose the images that feel most like your family.

Keep the baby on a stable, low surface with an adult within arm’s reach. Never leave a baby unattended on a bed, raised prop, or posing surface; stop if the baby seems uncomfortable.

  • Repeat the first-month angle
  • Keep the marker beside the baby
  • Back up the selected photos

Keep the milestone series easy to continue

A half-year photo does not need to look like a party. If you include a cake or decoration, keep it stable and outside the baby’s reach; the month card and a family portrait are enough to mark the date.

Look back at the first six photos before choosing the setup. Repeating one angle can make a simple grid or album feel like a complete story.
